Cooking up some magic! Half done with work on Chicagoland Detective Agency #6.
New ‘Raised on Ritalin’ pages are finally here! Thirty-nine of’em to be exact. This is part one of Chapter 4 and all of Chapter 5. I’m really happy with how this is turning out so far. Now the challenge is to finish up the full rough draft and find a publisher!
finally, a NOTHING BETTER update! seven glorious pages for you, just in time for the holidays!
Raised on Ritalin update: I think I’m about halfway done with a rough draft. I’ve spent the past few months writing and doing rough page layouts like these. I’m up to 151 pages.
The middle part of the book provides context to my personal story: the history of ADHD, some history of meds and psychiatry in general, and a look at current ADHD theories and meds.
Then it will segue back into my story and how learning all of this stuff reshaped my perception of my childhood, my past in general, my family, my relationships, my work, and so on.
And then the ever-important sound-bite-ready conclusion ;)
Just finished up the art for the Chicagoland Detective Agency #5: The Bark in Space, a few weeks ago. It will be out in spring 2013.
Sometimes I design things, Pt2: I also design a lot of posters for hours and events, as well as the MCAD SB’s logo (this is the most current one), and logos for our printing system that fit the college’s overall identity system. I also did a ‘family crest’ and its simpler variant that we had turned into patches for student staff.
It’s a great opportunity to practice and improve my design skills, and also just have fun and be creative as part of my job.
Sometimes I design things: I do a lot of ad-hoc, on-demand design work as part of my job at MCAD. Order forms, signage, etc. This summer I redesigned one of our pricing menus to look more like our brochure that a student designed a few years ago. I decided to re-design all of our order forms and signage to match.
It’s a NOTHING BETTER update. Back to Molly and Josey, and Katt and Jane’s visit to Minneapolis. Enjoy!

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted anything, anywhere, about my work process. Now is a good time to talk about it because I’ve made some changes over the last couple of years. I’m going to skip the writing and/or thumbnailing process and just focus on the making of the actual pages.
The amazing @CoriDoerrfeld’s Leah and the Owl storybook app is now available. Tell all your friends with kids!! It’s a great early reader with lots of fun/silly interactive bits. Our daughter, Charli, did an awesome job providing Leah’s voice too!
it’s a Nothing Better update! back to Jane and Katt visiting Jane’s sister Kim in Minneapolis.
Announcing the STYLISH VITTLES 10TH ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION eBook!
Ten years ago I published a book called Stylish Vittles: I Met a Girl. It was the beginning of my professional comics career (such that it is). Two more books followed.
I have put together a 10th Anniversary Collection e-Book which includes all three original books, as well as the conclusion that came years later: Stylish Vittles 4 - Behind the Page: The Saga of Rob Harvard. Additionally I put together a “Director’s Cut” e-Book in which I eliminated all of the elements of the original books which seemed unnecessary to present a shorter, simpler narrative. Finally, included in the Deluxe Collection, are two Appendices: Appendix One is almost one thousand pages of process material - outlines, scripts, sketches, layouts, etc. Appendix Two contains all of the material I did which led up to the creation of the Stylish Vittles books.
Altogether, the Stylish Vittles 10th Anniversary Deluxe Collection contains over 2,000 pages of art, story, and process material! For Free!

(A full press release can be found HERE if you’re into that sort of thing.)
wow. look at how deformed my character’s face looks here. WHAT is going on?? #SV10
In anticipation of the release of the Stylish Vittles 10th Anniversary Collected Edition, I’m going through the book and will be posting pics of the stuff I still find fascinating, whether it’s the best, the WORST, or just plain ridiculous, silly, or stupid.
First up - one of the opening story pages to I Met a Girl. I still love the atmosphere I was able to evoke of the studio space I had (even though my character looks kind of deformed). #SV10
